BAM section between Ulak and Verkhnezeisk opened to traffic (Amur Region) 19.02.2024

On 14 February, the new second track at the section of Baikal – Amur railway between Ulak and Verkhnezeisk was officially opened to train traffic. Construction of the second track is part of the BAM-2 Project.

The section Ulak – Verkhnezeisk is one out of 19 facilities designed by Stroyproekt. Our engineers developed the design and detailed design within a very short time even though they had to consider an extremely complex geology and severe climate of the project area. At present our specialists are carrying out the designer’s supervision of construction activities.

The construction process included over 400 thousand m3 of earth works aimed to prevent settlement and ensure safe traffic, in particular, soft soil removal, filling, soil freezing and embankment reinforcement. The new railway section comprises five engineering structures and five switches.

When the project is completed, the capacity of the railway will increase from 17 to 33 train pairs and will ensure transportation of over 50 mln tonnes of freight per year
