Kurortny Prospect Alternative Road is one of the main transport infrustructure facilities built for the 2014 Olympics. The 16km-long motorway with tunnels, bridges and flyovers goes through the city centre and ensures uninterrupted traffic at 75 km/h. In 2016, the project won the award for Best Transport Infrustruture Project in the contest organised by the Russian Ministry of Construction, Housing and Utilities.
The Project is implemented in 3 stages (Stage I Section between the Agura and Zemlyanichnaya street is 5,670 m long; Stage II Section from Zemlyanichnaya street to the Sochi River is 5,280 m long and Stage III includes a 5,330 m long section from the Sochi River to the Psakhe River).
Main technical parameters:
– length: 16.3 km
– lanes: 4 (in both directions)
– total length of engineering structures (flyovers and tunnels): over 20 km (in both directions).
Almost the whole road was located at flyovers and in tunnels.
The Project includes: 19 bridges and flyovers, 15 tunnels and 7 grade-separated interchanges.
On 27 January 2013 Stage I of the road was opened for traffic.
