A. Zhurbin, General Director of Institute Stroyproekt, presented his report about the use of mastic asphalt in road and bridge construction at IMAA Congress 2014
09.09.2014On 05 September 2014, IMAA Congress hosted the symposium on application of mastic asphalt in road and bridge construction.
A. Zhurbin, General Director of Institute Stroyproekt, presented his report about the use of mastic asphalt on the bridges designed by Stroyproekt.
In his report, A. Zhurbin noted, “Stroyproekt started using mastic asphalt in 2001. Before then there was not reliable and durable surfacing for bridge draw spans and orthotropic plates. We first used mastic asphalt for Alexander Nevsky Bridge Rehabilitation Project (2000 – 2002), and it was ABZ-1 Company that suggested applying mastic asphalt pavement”.
“Hundreds of bridges in various regions of Russia, from St. Petersburg to Novosibirsk, have now the road surfacing made of mastic asphalt, and in our designs for bridges with carriageway orthotropic plates we always provide for a 2-layer mastic asphalt pavement”, said A. Zhurbin.
In conclusion, A. Zhurbin thanked ABZ-1 Company for their valuable contribution to promotion and development of mastic asphalt and other asphalt coatings in Russia and expressed his hope that our joint efforts will make our roads better.
