Far West Krasnodar Bypass

Far West Krasnodar Bypass

Krasnodar (new construction)
Project period: 2017 – Present
General Designer: Institute Stroyproekt
Client: State Company Russian Highways

A new 51km-long bypass road will run through three municipalities of Krasnodar Region and will have grade-separated interchanges with the existing railway and motor roads. The route will start at the junction with the federal highway M-4 Don and end at the junction with the federal highway A-289 between Krasnodar and the A-290 road Novorossiysk - Kerch.

When selecting the route, special attention was given to the following aspects:
- Locating the new road away from the existing and planned development of Krasnodar agglomeration,
- Reducing the total length of a new transit corridor to Taman Peninsula,
- Bypassing the corridors of transit oil and gas pipelines,
- Maintaining the existing irrigation systems

The road will be built by stages. The first stage covers the project site preparation. The second stage includes construction of the main road and interchanges at km 0 (junction with the M-4) and km 52 (junction with the A-289). During the third and fourth stages, it is planned to develop a tolling system and an automated traffic control system. The final stage will be construction of the interchange at junction with the regional Krasnodar – Yeisk road.

Construction of Western Krasnodar Bypass will divert transit traffic from Krasnodar agglomeration, significantly reducing travel time.

The design applies a number of innovations, in particular BIM technologies. In 2018, a BIM model was developed for the project. The model provides a 3D visualisation of any element or system of the future road. The model includes four components: a land-use planning model, an engineering survey model, and pre-design and design models, which can be used at different stages of the design development. Stroyproekt’s engineers are pioneers in implementing BIM in design practices and are today in a position to create information models for almost any infrastructure project using their own software.
The M-4 Don Highway Project has obtained approval by the State Expert Review Authority (GGE) 11.02.2019 The M-4 Don Highway Project has obtained approval by the State Expert Review Authority (GGE)

Approvals by GGE have been obtained for technical and cost-estimating design documentation for the project: the M-4 Don highway from Moscow to Novorossiysk through the cities of Voronezh, Rostov-on-Don and Krasnodar.
