Stroyproekt Employees Take Part in Great Cycling Ride

The traditional Great Cycling Ride 2019 took place on May, 26. The event is held annually on last Sunday of May to promote cycling in Russia. 

The ride was timed to the celebration of the 316th anniversary of St. Petersburg and was sponsored by the City Committee for Transport Infrastructure Development. 

Stroyproekt employees participated in the event and enjoyed the 17km-long ride. This year, the route of the Great Cycle Ride ran through such city landmarks as Nevsky Prospekt, Palace Embankment, Troitsky Bridge, Grenadiersky Bridge, Ushakovskaya Embankment and Yachtennaya Street.

Before the ride started, Vice-Governor Eduard Batanov congratulated everyone on the city’s birthday. In his speech, he pointed out the importance of the cycling infrastructure development: “With the constant growth of the city population, St. Petersburg government is doing its best to develop the cycling infrastructure. We have more than 100 km of bike lanes and this year we will add another 31 km. This will be a remarkable contribution to the development of cycling”.     

Sergey Kharlashkin, Chairman of the Committee for Transport Infrastructure Development, wished the cyclists a successful ride and finish. “This year, many children are participating in the Great Cycling Ride. For some of them, cycling 17 km will be a challenge and a personal record, and we will reward all of them at the finish”, he said.
