M-8 “Kholmogory” Motorway. Reconstruction of section Moscow Ring Road-Pushkino (km16-km47)
Start up Complex No.3 (km16-km20)
Start up Complex No.2 (km22+100-km29+500)
Moscow Region
Development of design documentation
M-8 “Kholmogory” Motorway from Moscow via Yaroslavl, Vologda to Archangelsk
Client: FGU DSD ”Center”
General Designer: JSC “Institute Strojproect”, Moscow branch.
Terms for development of design documentation: October 2009 – December 2010.
Construction terms:
Start up Complex No.3: 17 months
Start up Complex No.2: 42 months
The positive statement of the State Expert Review Board has been received.
M-8 “Kholmogory” Federal Motorway ensures the transport link of Moscow and Moscow Region with the cities and settlements of Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Ivanovo, Vologda and Archangelsk Regions. The road is the base of the regional and local motor road network in the North-East of Moscow Region and services the area populated with 1,1 million people.
In section km16-km20 the motorway runs on the territory of Mytishchi city. At present the road includes 6 lanes.
The section km22+100- km27+000 the road runs on the territory of Mytishchi and Korolev cities as well as Chelyuskinsky and Tarasovka settlements with 6 lanes. The section km27+000-km29+500 runs on the territory of Tarasovka and includes 4 lanes.
The both sections run on the dense city territories with many crossings of the road and street network. Over the recent years the sections are overloaded and close to the capacity limit, which causes long congestions. As a result, the areas adjacent to the motorway are in a very unfavorable environment situation.
The design includes:
For start up complex No.3:
- Reconstruction of the road section with length of 4.441 km to IB road category with 10 lanes of traffic
- Construction of a traffic interchange in different levels, a 135 m overpass ( in section of junction to Frunze street), a 142 m turning flyover (in direction of Moscow), 4 overhead pedestrian crossings (in the places where the bus stops are arranged).

For start up complex No.2:
- Reconstruction of the road section km22+052-km29+470 (construction length: 7.417 km) to IB road category with increase of lane number to 10 and expansion of the road in section 25+400-km 28+200 with by-pass of Tarasovka.
- Construction and reconstruction of 3 traffic interchanges in different levels and 15 engineering structures, including:
- Overpass at the intersection with Monino branch of Moscow railway, 199 m
- Flyovers in direction of Bolshevskoye shosse-Moscow, 165 m
- A 142 m turning flyover
- Overpass in direction of Tarasovka – Textilshchik, length: 104.12 m
- 5 bridges across the Klyazma river: 81.70 m; 117.75 m; 153,98 m; 86.69 m; 93.04 m
- 6 overhead pedestrian crossings in the places where the bus stops are arranged.
To decrease the area for construction of the engineering structures the design includes a wide use of retaining walls.
