On May 26, 2011, a field meeting was held dedicated to the opening of operation in the new tunnel under the Liteyny Bridge and along the sections of Arsenalnaya and Pirogovskaya Embankments. The meeting was attended by Yu/ Molchanov, Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg, B. Murashov, Head of Committee foe development of transport infrastructure, M. Bliadze, General Director of JSC “Pylon”, A/ Zhurbin, General Director of JSC “Strojproect”, A. Surovtesev, Techncal director of JSC "Institute "Strojproect".

The traffic operation in the new tunnel under the Liteyny bridge was opened during the night of May 27, 2011, in the direction of Arsenalnaya Embankment (exit to the bridge is now from Pirogovskaya embankment). Now the existing tunnel will be closed for repair. The completion of the works and opening of the operation in full scope is expected in August 2011.

The reconstruction project of the transport knot on the right bank exit from Liteyny bridge was waiting for implementation for 30 years. This transport knot at the junction of Arsenalnaya and Pirogovskaya Embankments is one of the busiest in the city. The old 3-lane motorway tunnel built in 1968 has long become inadequate to satisfy the rising traffic demands.
